SYNDICATION INFORMATION
Racehorse Syndication is an enjoyable and affordable way to get started in racehorse ownership.
You can enjoy the thrill of racehorse ownership at a fraction of the cost. Initially, the syndicator will "split" the horse in to shares and and "value add" the package by adding into the share cost such items as the initial purchase price of the horse, insurance, breaking in costs, contractural obligations with Racing Authorities and ASIC compliance, agistment / holding costs, advertising , marketing costs, overheads and administration costs etc.
The horse is usually split into 10 or up to 20 shares. Most syndicators will charge a fee to manage the horse in some form or another. It is time consuming and costly to manage a racehorse. A good manager will be in constant contact with your Trainer and stable and keep you informed of the progress of your trusty steed. It isn't enjoyable when you don't know what is happening.
If you're considering racing a horse in a syndicate be prepared to share the experience with others as you'll be connected to the other members in your syndicate and bound by the group's collective decisions.
Racehorse ownership need not be an expensive pastime and by owning smaller shares of racehorses you can "spread" your outlay and risk around so to speak. Other forms of racehorse ownership include leasing. This is where the horse is "leased" to an individual or group by the owner or breeder. The horse's upkeep is paid for by the lessee (you) and a share of prizemoney is negotiated bewteen the owner and lessee. Leases are usually for 3 years and sometimes include an option to buy. Good thing with Leasing. If your horse proves to be no good, you can hand it back at anytime to it's owner. There are many ways to get involved in racehorse ownership.
