INFORMATION
RACEHORSE OWNERSHIP HAS NEVER BEEN EASIER
These days you don’t have to be a king to be involved in the SPORT OF KINGS.
There is an urban myth that you need to be extremely rich to own a race horse. This is no longer the case.
It is also a myth that if you spend more money you’ll get a better horse.
Sure there has been plenty spent on good horses but many more champions have been bought for a modest outlay.
In fact the greatest horse I’ve seen the mighty Kingston Town was actually passed in @ auction for only $7,000. You could have owned him for a small outlay.
The other millionaire champion of that era Manikato sold for only $3,000.
Gunsynd sold for $1,300 & the champion Tulloch went for 750 guineas.
In more recent times the champion Octagonal was purchased for the relatively cheap price of $200,000.
2008 Magic Millions 2Y0 winner Augusta Proud who was "passed in" for less than $50,000 at the auction sale, retained by his breeder & mates, has now won in excess of $1million & still counting.
THE EXPERIENCE
The racetrack is the melting pot of society. It’s where all walks of life come together to enjoy the unparalleled thrill of cheering home “your” horse.
Apart from the birth of my children I can’t think of anything more exciting.
Well almost.
Anyway it’s right up there with all of life’s best experiences.
If you do decide to join us & race a horse be prepared to experience not only all the highs but the lows as well because I must pre-warn you that not all horses are successful.
You shouldn’t be coming on board if you believe this will be a get rich quick scheme.
However my experience tells me that most people embrace & enjoy the “whole” experience. They are enthralled by just being a part of this great industry known as the SPORT OF KINGS
Have you ever dreamed of owning a racehorse? Thought it would be too expensive?
Well think again. It is now more affordable than ever to get involved. It’s as easy as picking up the phone or logging onto the internet.
You can be the proud owner of one of these magnificent creatures for a very small outlay. It’s up to you as to how much you wish to invest.
Once you do join in you’ll be afforded all of the raceday privileges that are only afforded to participants. You can mingle with the stars and celebrities as your horse struts his/her stuff in the parade rings of Royal Randwick or maybe even Flemington on that first Tuesday in November.
Listen as your trainer issues last minute instructions to your chosen jockey. Experience the adrenalin rush as your horse salutes the judge.
Maybe you would like to visit an early morning trackwork session to check on the progress of your equine athlete.
You can also visit the stables and inspect your pride and joy or attend the many organized social functions of the industry.
Owning a racehorse is more than just going to the racetrack on raceday. It is a lifestyle beyond compare.
PRIZEMONEY
Australia compares more than favourably on the world stage as far as prizemoney goes.
In fact it is ahead of most countries in terms of return on investment.
That means the cost of racing a horse here compared to the returns available are very healthy.
Prizemoney in Australia has been boosted in recent times due to the many government backed incentive schemes on offer.
Auctioneers such as William Inglis & sons & Magic Millions Sales companies are also now providing additional prizemoney in their sales based series of races. Horses bought from these auction company's sales can compete for additional bonus prizemoney.
Nowadays it is possible to race for additional bonuses paid on top of usual prizemoney on most races in every state.
These incentive schemes are contributed to by the breeders of our racehorses.
Owners then pay a small nomination to make their horse eligible for the scheme.
In NSW alone the Breeders Owners Bonus Scheme (BOBS) pay a $20,000 bonus for a Saturday city win, $10,000 for a midweek city win & $5,000 for a provincial/country win.
