OVERVIEW
Wayne Cooper - Bloodstock Agent
The role of the modern bloodstock agent within the racing industry is extremely important and perhaps even more so when the first time investor is involved.
Wayne is offering his services as a bloodstock agent to any person who is interested in having an agent act on their behalf at both Auction sales or privately.
Wayne will be focusing his energies on all of the major sales throughout the year usually starting with the Magic Millions on the Gold Coast Australia .
Wayne will attend all other sales including overseas by appointment if required. WCB & Wayne are actively looking for the next Champion both locally & "emerging" young stars from as far afield as South America & beyond.
Australian based agents have developed an international reputation for first class service founded on integrity, expertise and professionalism. A thorough knowledge of the bloodstock market, on both an international and domestic scale, means that they are ideally qualified to offer the best possible advice on the purchase and management of racing stock and associated services.
Wayne has gathered momentum very quickly from day one as an agent & he
hasn’t wasted time in gaining the respect of his owners & peers.
The first horse he bought & syndicated was in fact a horse that was passed in at auction.
The skinny yearling who could hardly get up on his feet in his box was passed in at a mid year Magic Millions auction on the Gold Coast.
Wayne kept coming back to the youngster that was passed in @ only $6,000.
Wayne persisted & eventually agreed to purchase him for the modest sum of $10,000.
He became known as Waltz To Glory & quickly kicked off the winning ways of Wayne & WCB.
Wayne has also been successful in the “pinhooking” department. This is the process of buying weanlings & re-sellingfor a profit as yearlings or older.
Wayne also has a nice bunch of 2Y0’s that he syndicated as yearlings progressing nicely.
Another method of "securing" a nice horse is through Australia & NZ's "Ready To Run" Sales for 2Y0's in training. These sales are a great way to buy, as all the hard work is done. Young horses are already broken in & going.
Some people have “the eye” for horses & Wayne is one of them. WCB have a great record in winners to runners with their syndicated horses & with the exception of injury would most likely be 100%. On a recent star finding mission to South America, Wayne found & recommended several young colts & fillies to Australian clients. These horses have gone on to Group One success internationally inc. Happy Boy, Cocoa Beach, Celtic Princess & Matto Mondo.
The first 3 horses Wayne & his family owned prior to formation of Wayne Cooper Bloodstock were all winners & he has continued on in the same vein once he decided to follow his dream of establishing his business WAYNE COOPER BLOODSTOCK.
He’s passionate about following his dream & extremely passionate about being successful.
Whether you are a first time buyer looking to buy your first horse or a long time devotee looking for a fresh change Wayne will always have your interests & needs at heart.
He is extremely dilligent about selecting value for money stock at all levels of entry into the marketplace.
His attention to detail is inherent and he is prepared to put in the hard work to guarantee your enjoyment & success.
He strongly believes that your success & his as an agent are intertwined.
He believes that he cannot succeed without results.
This is all good news for you, the client & owner.
Bloodstock Guide for Buyers:-
• The buyer must decide the type of horse they desire
• The buyer must decide on a budget
If you are unsure of the type of horse you wish to buy or are unclear of the necessary procedures to follow that is when you need professional advice.
Wayne is happy to offer advice on the purchase of any horse you desire.
He is also willing to act on your behalf in the purchase of same.
Wayne will be attending all of the major sales starting with the Magic Millions sale on the Gold Coast Australia in January of each year.
Buying a Horse
The key to selecting quality bloodstock , lies not within the price, but exercising due dilligence & a passion for looking at a lot of horses.
My three key elements to success. Knowledge; Enthusiasm & Persistence certainly helps.
Bloodstock agents in general tend to play follow the leader & buy what is the “flavour” of the time. Wayne believes that Bloodstock agents in general tend to drive prices up & quite often pay much more than the horses’ worth. I refuse to do this. I will not pay “overs” for anything says Wayne.
I tend to look for the best athletes I can find and ignore the overpriced individuals. I tend to look for horses from good winning families. I tend to believe that history has a habit of repeating itself regularly. I like to put the odds in our favour. I start with the pedigree & then eliminate “possibilities” by thorough inspections of prospective buys, reports Wayne.
I will not hesitate to enlist the help of other experienced horsemen; vets etc. during inspections of yearlings & racehorses. Most importantly, we as agents need to "listen" to our clients & help them achieve their long term goals.
What are the Factors that determine a good horse?:
At the sales our team inspect the horses putting a great emphasis on conformation, “Conformation is a term used to describe how a horse is constructed or put together”, eg.
• Correct alignment of limbs
• Good density of bone
• A well developed upper body
• Good width between jaws to allow air flow
• An attractive head
• And good movement during walk and trot
If the horse fulfils the aforementioned criteria it decreases the possibility of injury during training and racing.
